Green Project

photo: Apartment Therapy

I've been thinking for a while about growing some wheatgrass indoors.
I don't plan on drinking it, but just enjoying the lush, green blades of grass in the pre-spring days of my dining room.
I have found some wonderful photos and instructions so I think I'll finally have to try it!

I also think it might be a great project to do with my oldest son.

I'll keep you posted on how things go!

Snow Day

It's wonderful to see the unbridled excitment in my son over a fresh snow.

He kept insisting he wanted to go outside to make snow angels. His dad and I reluctantly helped him get bundled up in his snowpants, hat, coat and mittens, and kept thinking about how we did not want to go outside in the cold.
We braced ourselves and said, "we're going to stay in, but you can go outside if you want."
We waited with dread, thinking he was going to beg and plead with us to go with him and then end up deciding with great frustration that he would stay in afterall.

Instead our big boy said, "ok, I'm going."
I think it might have been the first time he ventured outside to play by himself.
We watched him from the kitchen window as he went out and promptly laid down in the snow to make snow angels.
That's when I felt bad and threw on a coat and grabbed my camera.

It only lasted a few minutes and he was ready to go back in, but boy was it a great snow day.

The dangers of dreaming (aka the struggles with contentment)

I've always been a dreamer.
I guess I've always collected ideas.
My mind is full of visions of possiblities.
I'm always thinking about what could be.
This makes for lovely daydreams and pretty thoughts and even some admirable and possibly attainable goals.
The problem that all these beautiful possibilities pose is that sometimes I get a little saddened with what I have or -in other words - what I don't have.
Lately I've been thinking about all the pretty things I'd like to have. Most of the things I've been thinking about aren't fancy or expensive, but it all adds up to being just out of reach.
It's a fine balance between dreaming about possiblities and feeling sorry for yourself sometimes.
Lately I've just really struggled with not being content with what I have.
I have to remind myself that less is so often more.
There are so many people in this world that would be so happy to have a roof over their head or basic food to eat.
I'm trying to be content today. And maybe tomorrow will be a little easier.

Garden Club

As spring peeks out from around the cloudy corner I've started to think again about our yard.
I would love to be able to just plant every tree and shrub and flower that I love all at once, but a budget constantly gets in the way. Sometimes it's difficult to have patience knowing how long it takes for some things to grow, but I'm keeping a list of different plants I love and every year we try to keep adding to our yard bit by bit.

I can almost smell the lavender in the photo above and the little shed looks so peaceful. I can just imagine potting up some pansies in some beautiful clay pots and some delicious smelling soil falling out and landing on some type of cute garden clogs.

I'm officially ready for spring....and crossing some more plants off my big plant list. The question is....which ones to get this year? It's always so hard to decide.

Sunshine

I treated myself to a little sunshine this weekend.

A mere $10 for a little pre-spring pick-me-up.

I believe it was well worth it.
